Brief Description:

Octafluoropropane is a fully fluorinated propane. At room temperature, it is a colorless, odorless, nonflammable gas with extremely high chemical stability. It is mainly used in semiconductor etching, medical ophthalmic gases, and highvoltage insulation.

APPLICATIONS:

1. Semiconductor industry (plasma etching): Octafluoropropane mixed with oxygen is used in dielectric etching processes, particularly oxide etching (e.g., SiO₂). It provides higher etch rates and selectivity compared to perfluoroethane. Typical application: high‑aspect‑ratio contact hole etching in 3D NAND flash manufacturing.

2. Ophthalmic medical use (vitreous tamponade gas): Used as a tamponade gas after vitrectomy. Its expansion properties and low water solubility provide long‑term retinal support and promote reattachment, often used in the treatment of complex retinal detachment.

3. High‑voltage electrical insulation: Due to its high dielectric strength and relatively low global warming potential, it is used in medium‑voltage gas‑insulated switchgear (GIS) as an alternative to sulfur hexafluoride.

4. Low‑temperature refrigeration: Used as a low‑temperature refrigerant in cryogenic circuits for superconducting magnet cooling and medical magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems.

STORAGE CONDITIONS:

1. Store in a cool, ventilated area; storage temperature should not exceed 37°C.

2. Keep container tightly sealed. Separate from oxidizing agents and flammable materials – do not mix storage.

3. Steel cylinders should be stored away from light, moisture, and direct sunlight; the warehouse must be equipped with lightning protection.

4. Ventilation systems should be equipped with static electricity grounding.

5. The storage area should be equipped with spill containment and appropriate collection materials.

PACKAGE:

1. Steel cylinders with safety caps in place.

2. Other packaging forms available upon request.

CHEMICAL PROPERTIES:

Extremely stable at room temperature; does not react with strong acids, strong bases, or oxidizing agents. At high temperatures (>300°C), it may decompose in the presence of open flame to release hydrogen fluoride. Critical temperature: 71.9°C, critical pressure: 2.68 MPa, boiling point: –36.7°C, slightly soluble in water. Nonflammable; as an inert gas, avoid contact with oils and greases under high pressure.
