BASIC INFORMATION:

Product Name: 2,3Difluorophenol

Chemical Formula: C₆H₄F₂O

CAS: 6418-38-8

HS Code: 29081990

Molecular Weight: 130.09

Einecs: 264-750-2

Structural Formula:

2,3Difluorophenol

Brief Description:

2,3Difluorophenol is a white, lowmelting crystalline solid (may liquefy at room temperature). It exhibits the weak acidity of phenols combined with the strong electronwithdrawing effect of fluorine atoms, making it an important pharmaceutical and pesticide intermediate.

TECHNICAL INDICATORS:

4.7±0.2 mmHg (25°C)

APPLICATIONS:

1. Pharmaceutical intermediate: Used in the synthesis of anticonvulsants (e.g., fluorine analogues of fosphenytoin) and antibacterial drugs (e.g., fluoroquinolones). Example: Williamson etherification to introduce side chains, yielding selective α2‑adrenergic receptor agonists.

2. Pesticide intermediate: Used for phenoxycarboxylic acid herbicides (e.g., fluorine derivatives of 2,4‑D) and insecticides (e.g., the phenol fragment of lufenuron).

3. Liquid crystal materials: Introduced as a high‑polarity end group into liquid crystal molecules to enhance intermolecular hydrogen bonding, used in ferroelectric and antiferroelectric liquid crystals.

4. Coordination chemistry: The phenolic hydroxyl group can coordinate with various transition metal ions (e.g., copper, zinc) to form fluorescent metal complexes or magnetic materials.

STORAGE CONDITIONS:

1. Store in a ventilated, cool, dry area, away from heat and open flame.

2. Keep container tightly sealed, avoid moisture.

3. Separate from strong oxidizing agents and food additives – do not mix storage.

4. The storage area should be equipped with spill containment and appropriate collection materials.

PACKAGE:

1. Sealed drums, outer plastic or fiberboard boxes.

2. Other packaging forms available upon request.

CHEMICAL PROPERTIES:

Melting point: 39–42°C, boiling point: 54°C (25 mmHg) or 141.2°C (760 mmHg), flash point: 56°C, refractive index: 1.496. pKa ~7.71 (weakly acidic, stronger than phenol); reacts with sodium hydroxide to form the sodium phenolate salt. The phenolic hydroxyl group is easily oxidized to a quinoid structure; store under inert atmosphere at 2–8°C.
