Structural Formula:

Brief Description:
2,3-Difluorophenetole is a colorless transparent liquid. As a fluorinecontaining aromatic ether, the ethyloxy chain imparts a degree of hydrophobicity, giving it unique applications in pharmaceuticals and liquid crystal materials.
TECHNICAL INDICATORS:
Items | Result |
Appearance | Colorless transparent liquid |
Density | 1.1784 g/mL |
Vapor pressure | 4.13 hPa (20°C) ≈ 3.10 mmHg |
Purity (%) | ≥99.5% |
APPLICATIONS:
1. Pharmaceutical intermediate: Used in the synthesis of antibacterial drugs (e.g., fluoroquinolone analogues such as levofloxacin homologues) and antiviral agents.
2. Pesticide intermediate: Used to synthesize phenetole herbicides (e.g., fluorolactofen) and acaricides (e.g., fluorine‑containing derivatives of etoxazole).
3. Liquid crystal materials: The ethyloxy group, being longer than methoxy, improves solubility and low‑temperature performance of LC mixtures; used in VA‑LCD and IPS‑LCD formulations.
4. Organic solvent: Serves as a high‑boiling inert solvent for high‑temperature organic reactions (e.g., Suzuki coupling, Buchwald‑Hartwig amination), recoverable by distillation.
STORAGE CONDITIONS:
1. Store in a cool, dry, well‑ventilated area.
2. Keep container tightly sealed; store in a cool, dark place.
3. Separate from oxidizing agents – do not mix storage.
4. Ventilation systems should be equipped with static electricity grounding.
5. The storage area should be equipped with spill containment and appropriate collection materials.
PACKAGE:
1. Tightly sealed container.
2. Other packaging forms available upon request.
CHEMICAL PROPERTIES:
Boiling point: 178°C, flash point: ca. 70.5°C, refractive index: 1.46701.4710. Insoluble in water, soluble in alcohols, ethers, benzene, and other organic solvents. The ethyloxy group may cleave under strong acid conditions to give 2,3difluorophenol. Stable to bases and dilute acids, but sensitive to oxidizing agents.
